Relying on guidebooks can be a good and bad thing when it comes to traveling. To start, if you are visiting a brand new country or place you have never been to, a guidebook can be an amazing tool to get you started. Guidebooks can provide lots of information on how to navigate the area, give recommendations on sightseeing, restaurants, museums, historic buildings, etc. This is good for someone who wants to see the basic things that are prominent in the area. The bad thing about guidebooks in my opinion is that they are filled with tourist traps. I think a lot of guidebooks offer touristy activities, and less cultural, local activates. When visiting a new country, it is important to visit the local restaurants and buildings, rather than the big hotels or big name brand restaurants. I also think guidebooks are limited. Some of the best activities in a new country can be ones that you stumble upon, or hear about from the locals.
